Trade Tactics
Ok so tactics are always subjective, but I feel tactics can be broken down a handful of different ways:
One - Build Cash Base
A) Get the rookies/draftees cheap $80-110k, and have them sitting on the bench or starting lineup depending on your team make-up.
B) The key to picking rookies/draftee’s is to ensure these players are playing each week, if they play they will go up in price until they hit $300-400k, then depending on performance, their price will stagnate and you can trade them for another new kid.
C) When picking up a new kid in a trade there is one fundamental key you must try to follow. Wait until they have played 2 matches, and then wait until the Friday when teams are announced and if your man is named on the field, then draft him into your team. Be careful of players being named on the extended bench, as they are no guarantee of playing . So either risk it or wait till 5pm Friday to see final teams posted on the AFL or HeraldSun web site.
Two - Upgrade Players
Option 1) Look to build cash by getting cheapies, and waiting 4-8 weeks until they start to maximise in price and then pocket some cash by trading them for a new cheapy. Then assuming you haven’t been ravaged by injuries, forced to make trades you didn’t want to and can keep winning to stay in the finals race. You can build up a solid spare cash base to upgrade players when hit by injuries, or once we get close to finals, you can dump your rejects and upgrade to an all-star cast for Finals.
Option 2) Hopefully everyone has picked up a number of kids that have gone through the roof in Price… the likes of Otten, Rich, Krackouer, Whitecross or Ziebell etc etc… Well, if they are in your starting lineup and your still winning in your league then there is no need to rush out and upgrade. …. But if you have some supposed high scorers that just aren’t scoring well, or too inconsistent, and any of these guys are on your bench then maybe it’s time to trade in a cash cow, get a new kid that can grow your bank account and pick up one of my MUST HAVE’s.
Three - General Advice
A) As injuries are inevitable, it is ideal to trade in cash-cows when you lose any of your intermediate players or young kids with an extended injury. This way you need to dump then anyway, so why not dump an additional cash-cow first get a heap of cash to upgrade your injured player for a superstar. This same principle can apply to players who just aren’t performing for you.
B) Never name an emergency on you ruck line-up…….. unless you have no emergencies playing on any other line. Reasoning: Rucks are inherintly lower scorers (excluding Big Cox), and as you only have two Rucks in your starting line-up, probability states it is far more likely that there will be a late withdrawal from your Forwards/Midfielders or Defenders that have seven possibilities to withdrawer in each lineup.
C) Whilst I pay little regard to rucks in SuperCoach (excluding Big Cox), I suggest wasting no trades in your ruck line-up unless you are going to give zero. Firstly, because I don’t think you will get value from trying to upgrade rucks, and secondly because we don’t normally name an Emergency ruck, you are getting a zero with a late withdrawal anyway. Oh, and they are injury prone.
