My Top Five Rookies (<$200k) of the week:

1)    N Fyfe (Fwd 94k)  has been outstanding in his first two games for a $94k rookie.  His first week of 104 was sensational given his pre-season form.  His ave after two games is sitting on 89.  Also, with the rookie and Dangerfield trouble in my forward line, I will be looking to bring in Fyfe this week assuming he is named.  I expect he will get plenty of opportunity given the Dockers don’t have a great forward line, and he is getting a run despite Freo not have a lot of injuries at the moment.

2)    J Grant (Fwd 159k) Just played his second game and has been serviceable for the Doggies.  He has had two similar performances and has an average of 75.  I not sure he will get a run regularly in the team, but at this stage looks solid, and definitely improving.  The Doggies rate him highly, and took him very high in the draft a couple of years ago.

3)    D Roberton (Def 94k) Well Freo keep pulling kids out of their ass and keep winning which means they a getting plenty of the ball and subsequently good SC scores.  Roberton just played his first game on the weekend and plucked a 74.  So whilst I wouldn’t  rush out a grab him this week, keep an eye on him, and another good performance next week will see him jump up the list.   

4)    J Roughead (Ruck 100k)  So Rookie rucks are hard to find, We Lobbe getting a run for Port, and may get more opportunity than Roughead given big Will Minson is knocking on the team door.  But Roughead has been solid for a rookie ruck and has an average of 51.  If you Ruck stocks are in trouble he may be a good man to have on the bench.  If you want another rookie Ruck option look at Lobbe at Port as both have racked up 2 games a piece and will jump in price a little next week..

5)    B Cunnington (Mid 159k)  Many may ask why the hell do I have Cunnington on the list given he only scored 24 last week.  Well my reasoning is simple, he just played his second game, he is one of the last top 10 draft picks to get a run, and he WILL be something special.  Playing for the Kangas, he will get plenty of opportunity.  If you want a solid contributor in your midfield or even on the bench, then Cunnington may be your man….. I’d suggest going forward he will score similar to Dustin Martin, Lewis Jetta or even Trengrove if we’re lucky.

My Top Five Rookies (<$200k) of the week:

1)    J “The fairytale” Podsiadly (Fwd 83k) I can’t believe this bloke, rookie at age 28… ave = 99 after 2, so huge cash jump next week…. I’ve seen both of his games and his NAB Cup.  His NAB Cup game was rubbish, and why I didn’t pick him….. but he has been awesome taking contested marks, a great lead-up forward and kicking goals (even missed a few).  Just because of Mooney/Hawkins I may draft Rockliff this week instead…. But I take back everything I said about this bloke.  Looks the Goodes J

2)    T Rockliff (Fwd 109k) I’ve had my eye on Rockliff since some awesom NAB cup scores, and would have already had him if was named in Rnd 1.  An Ave of 87, and running through the midfield…. It’s out of Rockliff and Podsiadly for my trades this week…. Will wait for the teams, but leaning towards Rockliff for longevity

3)    C Schmidt (Def 100k)  If you don’t have Maguire/Waters/Silvangi in your backline like most of us, or looking to cash in one of them.  This is your man with and Ave of 85 in a very average team.  I will prob leave my backline alone as I think I can squeeze some more cash out of my existing blokes.

4)    K Lucas (Mid 124k)  Despite the fact he plays for the Blues, he’s not a complete retard… right Motts?  He seems to move well and gets plenty of it. He had a good game on the weekend with 83, and after 2, if it’s time to  cash in a midfielder, he’s your man.

5)    R Bail (Mid 190k) Flying under the radar, Bail has an Ave of 84…. And plenty of cash coming his way.  I would have rated him higher, except he is already 190k, and the Dee’s have just come off their only two wins in the last decade, so playing with a group of spastics will not help him going forward, but worth a punt.

My Top Five Rookies of the week:

1)     R Bastinac (Mid $178k) has been consistent and had a break-out week and started to show why he is so highly rated.

2)    C Pieterson (Fwd $182k) has been the best rookie forward by a country mile thus far.  Through keep your eye on T Rockliff who played his first game this week and scored a 142 in the NAB Cup.

3)    B Waters (Def $227k) missed over a season for football, and has clearly been the best rookie defender and has returned this season with a vengeance.  The reason he missed was an elbow injury, not a knee, so injury reoccurrence risk is low.

4)    M Barlow (Mid $231k) has clearly been the best rookie so far this season, but had a bad week and coped a heavy knock early in the game… but should be right to go this week.  Jumped $118k in one week.

5)    D Martin (Mid $224k) I think has been rock solid, and will play every week if he doesn’t get injured.  He was playing senior footy for two years before going No. 3 in the national draft.

Notes:  Riewoldt is my star regardless of price, and Pav is second in line.  Franklin and Harvey and great value and high return players.  Dangerfield is likely to have a breakout year as a midfielder and very cheap.  Rohan and Moore and my two newby’s that I am banking to play and grow in value to later upgrade along with my emergencies.

Notes:  I’ve been keeping a bit of cash in the bank so may upgrade Burgoyne or Kerr, and for those of you liking Trengrove and or Scully then I have no issue with that.  I chose Martin because he is already playing senior football (like Rich last year) and because Melbourne is so bad that the team will surely hurt their scores…. But no one really knows, if they are good enough they will score.

Notes:  Pretty happy with rucks, and not going to waste much money on them…. Though still considering swapping Naitanui for Hille.  Tip for you all at home:  Don’t have more than $110k player on your Ruck bench…. as it will be wasted, it is clearly not worth naming a ruck emergency…. So just try to name emergencies that will play.

Defenders:

Goddard, Enright, Hodge, Gilbert, Hunt, Kennelly, Waters (WCE)

Emergencies:  Davis (Adel), Silvangi (Freo)

Still considering:  Drummond, Ladson, Sheppard (WCE)

Notes:  I’ve spent a few dollars on my back line, and also picked up some bargains.  Goddard is the stand-out, Hodge is a bargin.  Gilbert and Enright are both stellar contributors.  Hunt, Waters and Kennelly are worth the injury gamble.

Well the 2010 season is finally here, albeit the NAB Cup.  Well what better guide for picking your Supercoach team…. Well it’s your only guide.  

Anyway, here’s a few tips for picking you team, and let me be very clear, getting a good team is not about what guns you pick, it’s about the low-end players you have.  It’s the high draft picks and the rookies that really make a good team…. Anyone can pick a team of guns.

When it comes to your High End players…. Here’s the rule:

Defender:  You must Have Brendan Goddard – Automatic selection forget about price

Midfielder: Gary Ablett… I shouldn’t need to explain this but he is Automatic CAPTAIN…. So he is two players.  Look at him as 2 x $370k players.  Just make sure he is in your team.  

Ruck:  Usually Dean Cox is the automatic selection, but given injuries, you need guys that will play every week… So I suggest battle it out between Mcintosh, Ryder and Sandilands…. Prob doesn’t make any difference over a season.

Forward:  Again, if you follow Supercoach you will already have Nick Riewolt

A few Underpriced players you should have pegged are:

Defender:  Luke Hodge $485k

Midfielder:  Daniel Kerr $410k

Ruck:  Unfortunately all the rucks are rubbish… look at Matthew Kreuzer $421k

Forward:  Brent Harvey $499k

Now what will really set you apart from everyone else is you Low End players.  Is you have players who don’t play, your stuffed.  If they don’t score more than 20 points, your stuffed.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s ok if they are on your bench… but what are the chances you wont have injuries or suspensions.  This is also the hardest part of your team to select, as NO ONE knows who the rising stars will be…. But there are ways guides that we all need to follow:
